A Letter To Subscribers
Your subscription, patronage and support to MYLIFEplus25 is very much appreciated. Being wrongfully convicted is tragic precisely because it's preventable.
Every week I learn of a new soul, likewise wrongfully convicted who continues to fight for the freedom being denied them. This fight, the essays and podcast episodes, are for all you—the voiceless, incarcerated masses that the world has tried to forget.
If you are reading this and you know someone who has been touched by the injustice of justice, be it through a wrongful conviction or incarceration, in general, then please consider being a patron of this platform.
The content that we've presented is about personal growth, redemption, racism, social justice and national healing. Bridging the gap's is just the beginning, it's a place to start for bringing about a more inclusive nation where real justice and freedom are more than just rhetoric.
I invite you all to revisit my maiden post: Sandcastles( 4/18/21), and autobiographical look at the tragedy in life that turns to rock beneath our feet, permitting us to reach new heights of understanding and wisdom.
The Road Before Us (4/25/21), is about learning to look beyond our differences so that we can forgive and be reconciled with one another as a nation.
Clownsharks(5/2/21), touches on my experiences with growing through fears. It's a reflection on the lives the touch our own and forever changes.
The Broken Egg (5/9/21), is my experience with racism in the U.S., as a Mexican-Mestizo I look at myself through the magnifying glass of hindsight and wisdom to better understand how racism has shaped me.
Monsters, Inc (5/16/21), is by far one of my favorite pieces. It's a look at what taxpayers receive for the 6 percent of GDP spent on mass incarceration, both directly and indirectly. Instead of rehabilitation and reform, individuals are being released from prison more traumatized and criminal-minded than ever before. This is the truth that main stream media never touches.
Roommates (5/23/21), was something I wrote while feeling nostalgic for all the women who have blessed me with their touch. They all loved me in their own ways, and if only I would have been brave enough to see myself through their eyes the outcomes would’ve been different.
Enslavement or Freedom (5/30/21), is an opportunity for us to question everything that we think is true about democracy, freedom, justice, even the very righteousness of our economy. The chasm between freedom and slavery is not as big as one might think. My working title for this piece was The Cracked Whip.
Rogue Code(6/6/21), was one of those pieces where I couldn't set the pencil down. The thoughts and ideas just kept flowing. What started out as an idea was quickly transforming itself into an ideology. Dangerous, I know.
The Pipedream of Immigration Reform (6/13/21), is a look at why immigration reform always seems so out of reach for us. It's a controversial topic that divides, which is precisely why we have to confront it.
The Myth of the Superpredator (6/20/21), my first interview piece. Michael Brown, a juvenile offender who battles for a chance at life, and a polarized Supreme Court that isn't helping.
Word of mouth is what makes this platform possible. So please, forward your favorites to your favorites. Remember, your patronage is helping to bring about a documentary on wrongful convictions. This is a tragedy that repeats itself 40,000 times a year.
The MYLIFEplus25 Podcast is alive and growing. With every weekly post on substack we release a new episode, available on all the major platforms. Take a listen!
The first five episodes address your questions related to my legal case and wrongful conviction. In later episodes, I tackle comments from followers related to the incarceration experience, impunity, the truth about wrongful convictions, advice to immigrants, and a very important interview with Jessica Brown about the injustice of denying youth offenders a chance in life.
Your clicks and likes make a world of difference. And for those of you who follow me on Twitter @lifeplus25, thank you!
As our subscriber base continues to grow so will the content. We have some exciting interviews coming up for the podcast. We plan to have Jason Bowles, lead counsel on my defense team, to talk about just how slippery the slope of Justice is.
Most people don't realize how easy it is to find yourself wrongfully convicted. As an ex-prosecutor he possesses a unique perspective from both sides of the criminal justice coin.
And, if you followed us from the beginning then you've probably noticed the amazing reboot to our digital image. Our look is now more innovative and inviting as ever. And it's all thanks to Dylan at Future Gen media.
Finally, I am externally grateful for all the ongoing efforts to bring me home. And last but most certainly not least I give thanks to my loving mother who has been my teammate every step of the way.
She has been a friend, an editor, my most valued source of encouragement, and my most loyal advocate. None of this would be possible without the love of her and mi abuelita Victoria. Que Dios las bendiga siempre.
